GAY-FRIENDLY TRAVEL

An expert on gay-friendly travel, Jason was quoted an article in Pop City Media, speaking both to the welcoming atmosphere in Pittsburgh and to his knowledge of gay travel.

A keen observer of gay communities across the U.S. is Jason Salzenstein, Style and Travel Editor for Edge, a leading online gay network. “Most mid-sized cities in the U.S. are no different than anywhere else,” he notes. “You see the same old stereotypes and biases, they just show up more frequently.” Based in Boston, Salzenstein finds that his city’s ethnic tribes can be supportive of the gay lifestyle – or not. “Boston can be quasi-progressive and Kennedy- esque, in public at least,” he says. “But the machismo in the culture can make it less accepting.”

STYLE – On a Budget

Having worked with designers, retailers and celebrities – including Mossimo Giannulli, Banana Republic, and Dolce and Gabbana – Jason’s closet isn’t the only thing to speak on fashion.  From OUTinPerth magazine:

‘I’m not one for “refashioning” pieces from a few years back, and unless you’re a talented designer, I recommend staying away from needles, thread, and anything that involves studs, sequins or a Bedazzler,’ said Jason Salzenstein, who is the Style and Travel Editor for the U.S.-based Edge Publications, as well as a professional shopper.

‘If you’ve got a 10- year-old suit in a great fabric with giant shoulder pads and pleated pants, don’t try to “rock the old-school style.” Instead, take it to a good tailor and have him or her alter it. It may cost you a hundred dollars or so, but if the fabric is good, that’s certainly less than buying a new one.
